Many healthcare technologies start life as generic platforms, then get adapted for use in GP surgeries. At babblevoice, we take a different approach – we build our solutions around how primary care works. From supporting total triage to managing prescription requests, our in-house development is designed to improve patient access and reduce administrative pressure without disrupting clinical workflows.

Built in-house

The difference lies in how the technology is created. Every core component of babblevoice’s platform is designed and developed in-house by co-founder and Technical Director Nick Knight and his development team. This gives them complete control over functionality, integration and innovation.

Just as importantly, development is guided by real-world clinical expertise. Nick’s team work closely with Theresa Finn, a practising GP and babblevoice's Clinical Safety Officer, ensuring that clinical realities and patient needs are considered from the earliest stages of design.

This close partnership between engineering and frontline clinical experience enables rapid innovation, safer deployment - and solutions that properly address the challenges faced by modern GP practices.

From telephony to digital health

Babblevoice’s roots are in cloud-based telephony, but working closely with our surgery customers has shown us that improving access is about more than answering calls. Practices need support with growing patient demand, supporting different patient access routes and reducing pressure on their teams.

This understanding has driven our evolution from telephony into wider digital health solutions. We’re using our in-house technology to develop AI-powered tools built around real GP workflows, rather than asking practices to change the way they work.

Our Virtual Reception Assistant, TriageLine, is one example. It supports different stages of the patient journey, from helping patients access digital triage pathways to facilitating prescription requests.

Empowering health teams

We focus on using technology where it can remove friction from existing workflows, where it can make it easier for patients to access care, and where it can give practice teams more time for the people who need them.

As more surgeries adopt AI-powered solutions such as our Virtual Reception Assistant, we're seeing how technology can support the day-to-day work of primary care teams without losing real human connection. Whether helping patients navigate triage, facilitating prescription requests or routine enquiries, these tools can work alongside practice teams, taking on some of the administrative pressure.

The future of digital health isn't about replacing people - it's about empowering them with tools that help them best care for patients.

Building useful digital health technology is only part of the challenge. For it to work effectively in primary care, different systems need to work together. In our next article, we look at why integration and interoperability are so important to the future of digital health.
